Emsi and CareerBuilder grouped occupations in two categories—those that typically require at least an associate degree and those that don’t require a degree (but may require a postsecondary certificate).
They determined the “best” occupations by looking at a number of data points: the gap between unique job postings and hires, median hourly wages, and percentage job growth. We then found the metropolitan statistical areas in which those jobs have grown the fastest from 2010 to 2015 and have a solid presence.Another way to think about this list? Software developers, long-haul truck drivers, and the other fields that made the cut will be among the most in-demand jobs in 2016 based on job ads far outweighing hiring and their very solid recent growth.
